Hotel Helvetia 2009

Located on Santa Cruz Island; sustainability, landscape and natural heritage are intertwined as determinants for the design of the first hotel of its kind in the Galapagos Islands, Ecuador.

The organic architecture of the ecological complex is perfectly integrated into an area comprising dry forests that blend into the sandy coastline offering magnificent views of the Pacific Ocean.

The five-star hotel is designed to provide visitors with an intimate experience that celebrates the flora and fauna of the area, with minimal impact on the landscape.

The exterior architecture of the suites, arranged on a hillside with the sea in the background and facing west to enjoy the morning sun, is inspired by a turtle egg, evoking this animal that identifies the islands so much that it even gives them their name.

Each suite overlooks a waterhole designed to attract wildlife and regulate temperature naturally.

From afar, the "eggs" appear solid, but upon closer inspection, large arched openings and high vaulted ceilings are revealed, creating a great sense of space and an extensive connection to the outdoors. The existing vegetation is preserved while respecting the protected area offering an authentic experience.

The main building appears discreetly in the middle elevation of the mountain, connecting the reception area with the bar, restaurant, library and spa, which flow next to the pool with the sea in the background.

The project invites you to capture sensations of discovery, adventure and enchantment in an environment that combines ecological luxury with contemporary elegance.
